Planet Meltdown
I have an article on file that I got from a seminar about AXOD planet meltdown. It seems that they had found that an AXOD riding down the highway with just one driver did just fine. However, the same AXOD with four passengers and some luggage in the back was put on the highway, the planets would get hot enough to cause the fluid to sizzle off of them like water on a hot frying pan. This explains why an AXOD might be good for 100K miles in town and them melt the planets on the highway.
Not only research, but experience, has taught me to do the updates on the lube and transmission cooler system. It is imperative to insect the radiator and to install an additional external cooler on these, drill the spacer plate, drill .050 hole in the valve body line to lube, install a lube dam, and use synthetic fluid.
The synthetic fluid has about a 60 degree higher flash point than regular dextron, and may prevent the fflid from igniting on the planets, preventing meltdown.
Doing these mods will almost guarantee that this transmission will not melt another planet.
